What Can an Ultramarathon Teach Us About Living With Chronic Illness?
Join us September 15 for a live conversation with Matt Fitzgerald about endurance, Long COVID, adapting to changed capacity, and what he learned along the way.
Last week, we shared Matt Fitzgerald's story as part of a bigger conversation about recovery, resilience, and reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that matter.
Now we have the opportunity to continue that conversation live.
On Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m. Eastern, we'll be joining Matt for a special 80/20 Endurance Tuesday Teaching:
Navigating Endurance Training with Chronic Illness
Matt is an endurance athlete, coach, celebrated author, and cofounder of 80/20 Endurance. In 2020, he developed Long COVID, experiencing chronic fatigue, exercise intolerance, and post-exertional malaise.
Four years later, he completed the longest running event of his life – the Javelina Jundred 100K – and won his age group.
That doesn't mean the challenges of chronic illness simply disappeared.
Matt had to learn how to navigate them.
In this live conversation, he'll share what his experience taught him about training with chronic illness and how he now uses those lessons as a coach helping other athletes facing similar challenges.
We're delighted that Matt has invited us to join him. ThriveNinety has been part of Matt's journey, and we'll bring that shared experience to the conversation, along with what we've learned about managing symptoms, working with the body's current capacity, and gradually building resilience.
The event will also celebrate the launch of Matt's new book, Dying to Run: An Athlete's Quest for One More Finish, which was released on September 8.
Tuesday, September 15, 2026
7 p.m. Eastern
Online via Zoom
And there's a little bonus: everyone who registers will automatically be entered into a drawing for one of three free copies of Dying to Run.

We hope you'll join Matt and both of us for the conversation.
Warmly,
Katie & Andrea
PS: You don't have to be an ultramarathon runner – or even an endurance athlete – to join us. Many of the lessons from Matt's experience reach beyond training to navigating chronic illness, adapting to changing capacity, and finding ways to keep doing what matters to you.
