Recovery Isn’t About Just Resting — So What Is It?
Why true recovery starts with the right solutions. (written 04/06/2025)
When your body is stuck in a post-infection crash cycle, it’s easy to think that rest is the only option to help you feel better again. But what if recovery isn’t about resting — it’s about rebuilding.
Pacing and the right activities are key to this. As Katie experienced, leaning on typical progressive exercise recovery patterns and pushing too hard too quickly can lead to setbacks and limit recovery too. Using the right tools is critical to success.
The good news is that there is a lot in-between rest and pushing too hard and that is what we, and those we work with, find helpful. In sports we call this active recovery.
As an Olympic athlete, I learned that recovery wasn’t something you waited for — it was something you created with the right tools. The faster and more effectively we recovered, the better we could train and perform day after day. That’s not just an athlete thing — it translates to every aspect and can be adjusted depending on energy and specific needs, like post-infection conditions.
Your body needs more than downtime. It needs support to reduce inflammation, restore energy, and reset your nervous system. The good news? There are simple, practical ways to help your body bounce back — even if you’re feeling stuck now.
We’ve broken it all down in this week’s blog, including a 5-minute recovery reset you can start today.
