People Who Suffer Through
Post-infection Conditions: Invisible, Lonely, and Disabling - but there is hope. (written 03/24/2024)
Katie wrote a wonderful blog article, Long COVID: Invisible, Lonely and Disabling - but there is hope, where she reflects on the ways people try to work around Long COVID symptoms to still deliver as much as they can in work and their personal life, sometimes masking the extent of their struggles.
When I was telling a friend a couple of months ago that Katie and I were putting together a program to help people experiencing Long COVID, based on what we see in the research, my background, and the experiences with her own recovery, their first reaction was: “What? Katie has Long COVID? I had no idea.”
They didn’t know that Katie had the energy to work and interact in public, but had to choose what she put energy into, experienced “crashes,” and use workarounds to remain as functional as possible. Everyone experiencing symptoms themselves, or who lives with someone who has Long COVID, can probably relate to this story.
Long Covid can sometimes be imperceptible to the outside world because it isn’t always obvious who is impacted. We could ask ourselves, who do we not see as much of anymore? In addition to the blog post, we want to let you know about the approach that helped Katie manage her symptoms, and about the evidence-based program we have developed to support others.
We have been working with clients directly and have been humbled and inspired by the impact they have felt. In order to support more people, we are now offering an online version of the program. We designed a hybrid version that combines videos and content, that form the core of a structured program, with virtual live meetings. Participants can go through the content from home at a time that suits them best, and meet with Andrea and Katie to ask questions, share their experience, and get additional guidance.
Here, you will find more information and the link to sign up for our 12-week program, Long COVID Symptom Management. Here is what people we have worked with say:
“After just two weeks, I felt better than I had in years. Instead of crashing at the end of the day, I’ve started to play music again with my partner.” - Course participant.
You can now start Unit 1 - there is no charge for you to see if this approach is right for you.
Warmly,
Andrea
PS. If you recognise your own Long COVID experience in one of the descriptions in Katie's blog post, please consider joining our 12-week program to help you feel more like yourself.
