One Small Decision Could Change Everything
We always make decisions, even when we decide not to change anything. (written 01/26/2025)
Back in the days when I was competing for Olympic medals, not every competition was successful. After winning two golds, I faced two tough seasons that nearly pushed me off the German National Team. What helped me turn the corner was a mindset shift inspired by a book called The Decision is on You.
It reminded me that things will happen that I can’t control, but the decisions I make are on me, and every decision I make impacts my health and my performance. This lesson stayed with me, and I made the decision to do the training that needed to be done and live the life that I had to live - which included a lot of Pacing. The same approach is relevant for those managing Long COVID or post-infection conditions.
Making decisions, even tiny ones, helps boost pathways and chemicals in your brain that allow you to feel more calm and motivated, and opens the door to possibilities. Our latest blog, Why Making Small Decisions Helps You Feel Better, explores how choosing just one small action can be the first step toward feeling better. We also share some evidence-based options for you to consider when deciding what steps may be best to focus your energy on.
