Tapping Into and Building on Your Capabilities

For those experiencing Long Covid, recovery from Covid-19 can feel daunting and like something out of reach. It isn’t like most other injuries or illnesses you have coped with. Before experiencing Long Covid, you had developed trusted habits and tools to help you stay healthy, get in shape, and manage injuries and setbacks. With Long Covid these haven't provided the results you are used to, and may have even made you feel worse.

Because of the way your body has reacted to the Covid-19 infection, your previous trusted recovery “toolkit” can cause you to backslide (and can make it feel like there is no hope of recovery). Katie has been there and we understand how this feels.

So what's the good news? It is possible to feel better. By using a different toolkit, and having an approach that works with your body’s current condition, you can feel more like yourself again. We know how you feel and we can help.

We Are Katie and Andrea

Before the pandemic Katie was working as an economist and strategist in the National Health Service in England, using analysis to find innovative ways to tackle complex health conditions to keep people healthier and provide better value care. From March 2020 she was supporting the emergency response to Covid-19 and the vaccination rollout in London. She was also living with Long Covid - juggling work and being a new parent, but also experiencing fatigue, headaches, breathing difficulty, elevated heat rate, and brain fog. She had seen a number of clinicians, been through diagnostic testing, moved back to the US, changed jobs - none of which provided solutions or hope for improvement. So, Katie set out to find a solution. She drew on her professional background looking at complex health conditions and research on Long Covid. Based on that information she started healing herself - experiencing improvement and setbacks as she tested what worked. Then she met Andrea, a former professional athlete and expert in how to support healthy brain body connections.

Andrea has multiple Olympic and World Championship wins in the sport of Biathlon, representing her home country of Germany. Over her extraordinarily long competitive career, she has a wealth of experience fighting through setbacks and understanding what helps bodies perform well. She is also an experienced personal trainer, who is known for translating theory into simple actions, and developing programs that not just build stamina and strength, but deeply improve people’s quality of life and wellbeing by deliberately improving brain body connections. They brought their collective expertise together to share knowledge, and develop tools to tackle Long Covid.

What Research Offers

“Long COVID is a multisystemic illness encompassing ME/CFS, dysautonomia, impacts on multiple organ systems, and vascular and clotting abnormalities. It has already debilitated millions of individuals world-wide, and that number is continuing to grow. On the basis of more than 2 years of research on long COVID and decades of research on conditions such as ME/CFS, a significant proportion of individuals with long COVID may have lifelong disabilities if no action is taken.”

Hannah E. Davis, et al., “Long COVID: major findings, mechanisms and recommendations”, March 2023, Nature Reviews Microbiology

“Long-term management of patients with COVID-19 should include evaluation of subsequent development of autoimmune and autoinflammatory connective tissue disorders.”

Solam Lee, MD, PhD, et al., “Autoimmune and Autoinflammatory Connective Tissue Disorders Following COVID-19”, October 2023, JAMA Network Open

Covid-19 is a relatively new virus. The scientific and medical community are still learning how it interacts with the body and what causes complications people face. We will understand more about Covid-19 as time goes on, like with other long term syndromes and diseases such as heart disease and cancer. With cancer and other conditions, solutions have been honed over time. But we haven’t waited to treat people where knowledge exists to make a difference. Like with other conditions, we need to use the information we have to support those with Long Covid - that process will help people in the near term and build understanding over time.

Is the Program Right for You?

We know people experience different Long Covid symptoms, that the severity of symptoms each person experiences can fluctuate and that, in general, symptoms can be stronger for some and less severe for others. Our Pace Yourself program takes account of these differences, and allows you to find the right recovery level for you. This lets you move forward in a way that doesn’t over stress your system.
